TIER-1 SOLAR PANELS LIST: MYTHS AND FACTS.
For the purposes of indexing common search terms on the Internet, we have used the term Tier-1 Solar Panels List. Although technically incorrect, the purpose of this article is to inform module buyers about the unscrupulous sales tactics of a term that has no real substance among industry professionals in determining product quality.

1. There is no such thing as a Tier 1 solar panel. TRUE.
Only Tier 1 module manufacturers exist according to the Bloomberg New Energy Finance report or the PV Moduletech Bankability Ratings quarterly report.

2. Module manufacturers that are not listed in a Tier 1 report are of lower quality. FALSE.
Some of the world’s most innovative or respected module manufacturers do not appear in module ranking reports. Solar Analytica’s data reveals some of the most robust specifications from manufacturers that do not appear in reports such as Bloomberg NEF or PV Moduletech. Consider reputable brands such as Panasonic, Solaria, Winaico, Solarwatt, Meyer Burger, Peimar, Tindo, Aleo and Tesla, which have an excellent reputation in the industry.

3. Tier-1″ is a measure of quality. FALSE.
In the solar industry, the term Tier-1 is used to assess the financing capacity of manufacturers over a period of time, primarily for large-scale projects.

4. Tier-1 qualification is a label that accompanies the module throughout its life. FALSE.
A manufacturer’s ability to qualify for Tier-1 only exists for a given quarter. It is not an approval or certification that will accompany a particular module throughout its existence.

5. Beware of advertisers touting Level 1 solar panels. TRUE.
The savvy investor in you now knows that there is no such thing as a Tier 1 solar panel. There are only manufacturers of Tier 1 solar modules, who have little influence on the overall integrity of the product. These are often advertisers who exploit the lack of knowledge of consumers with a rather unpleasant sales style, using buzzwords to sound superior.

6. The use of a module ranking report to facilitate the financial qualification of specific projects has merit. TRUE.
Module ranking reports provide module buyers with a financial and volumetric overview of selected module manufacturers for financiers seeking to finance large-scale projects.
